Merrill - The rail road came through in 1872 and a sawmill was built in the area. A post office by the name of Greene opened in 1875. The village was officially established in 1881 and the post office renamed. Greene - See Merrill above. Doyle - Listed on the 1884 railroad map of the county. Sits on the county line with Gratiot and is also listed on a 1904 gazetteer named Eaton. There are railroad tracks nearby so suspect this was a station or stop at one time. West Mill P.O. - Shows on 1877 Plat Map on the west border of the township in section 28. |

Carolyn's Saginaw Images SiteUnknown Cemetery - In a late 1800 atlas there is a cemetery showing on the west end of Merrill. It does not exist today and no information has been found on it. This information compiled about the cemeteries of Saginaw County was taken from a number of resources by the previous county coordinators. Some of this information was compiled by the individual township supervisors of the county in the late 1960's and provided to us by Patrick Bohinski. |
